i2i Core Members identify as being of Asian descent (this includes South Asians and Southeast Asians). They also identify as lesbian/gay/ bi/queer/transgender or questioning. Currently, there are about half a dozen people in the Core. The Core group attends regular business meetings, helps develop ways to grow the organization and its membership, and makes policy and spending decisions. The Core plays an important role in supporting the co-facilitators.
Requirements to become a Core Member:
-- One must have attended at least three i2i events.
-- One must submit a letter to the Core expressing her or his desire and commitment to become a Core Member for a term of six months to a year, along with what skills and visions they will bring to the role.
-- The Core will will then decide how to respond to your interest in joining the Core.
Expectations of a Core Member:
-- All current Core members must spearhead (with the help of another Core member) two i2i events per year. Monthly socials do not count.
-- Communicate in a timely manner with fellow Core members. Let them know your preferred method of communication (email, phone, face to face, text message, etc.). Try to respond to messages within 1-2 days. Or if you are too busy to respond fully, please communicate that to the Core.
-- Be present for and fully support major i2i events, including fundraisers.
* New Core Members are invited to join the Core twice a year, in January and July. However, individuals may submit a letter requesting to become part of the Core at any time.

Co-Facilitators are people who help facilitate, but do not dictate the progression of the organization. As of August 2010, i2i has one co-facilitator: I Li Hsiao. There are times co-facilitators must make decisions they feel are in the best interest of the group -- though not everyone in i2i may agree with every decision made. Still, input is frequently sought out from the members. Co-facilitators are also Core Members.
Co-facilitators help grow the organization and keep it vital by encouraging the presentation of new programs. They recruit new members, support and retain members, mediate problems, call and lead regular business meetings. Find ways for all members to be engaged. There currently is not an entry/exit structure in place for Co-facilitators, but we're working on it!
Requirements to become a Co-Facilitator:
-- One must first serve at least one year as a Core member.
-- One must submit a letter to the Core expressing her or his desire and commitment to facilitate for a term of at least one year, along with what skills and visions they will bring to the role.
-- The Core group must vote on naming the said individual as Co-facilitator. If a simple
majority agrees on said person, the person will become a new Co-facilitator.
Expectations of a Co-Facilitator:
-- The main task of a co-facilitator is to keep the organization growing in membership and vitality, and help it move forward in achieving its mission.
-- Schedule monthly Core Meetings to help the core achieve its goal to have relevant and engaging monthly programming, and to empower the membership.
-- Regularly update the website, or ask someone to do so.
-- Communicate in a timely manner with fellow Core members. Let them know your preferred method of communication (email, phone, face to face, text message, etc.). Try to respond to messages within 1-2 days. Or if you are too busy to respond fully, please communicate that to the Core.

i2i General Members identify as being of Asian descent. They also identify as lesbian/gay/ bi/queer/transgender or questioning. There are about 80 people on the listserv, many of whom we've never met. About 30 are general members come to events from time to time. At any time, if a General Member wishes to increase their involvement and become a Core Member -- please let the Core know.

i2i Allies include those who are not queer API who are our friends, colleagues, loved ones, other queer people of color, straight supporters, etc. They can be people of diverse ethnicities and orientations. Though Allies may not attend business meetings, they are welcome to certain i2i-sponsored events (educational, cultural, holiday socials, etc.). They can keep abreast of i2i events through the listserv and i2i website.
We appreciate all of our supporters and
all different levels of involvement!
Last note... i2i does not have a board or a single presiding person who makes decisions. We are more of a collective, with decisions made by members attending our business meetings, and with input from the listserv. Currently, we have a team of two people who co-facilitate the group to help it grow and move forward. If you are interested in taking a future shift as co-facilitator for a period of time, please let them know!
